Adding milk to espresso or tea can create new flavor experiences. It's rich for one drink, but each coffee flavor and milk type can bring new dimensions to commonly ordered drinks. Even adding the espresso before or after the milk—steamed or foam—to the cup gives different flavor results. Hard to believe, but it's true.

Here are some drinks with espresso and milk:

  • Cappuccino - One shot of espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, and 1/3 foam
    • Dry - less milk and more foam
    • Wet - more milk and less foam
  • Latte - One shot of espresso, 8-10oz steamed milk, ½ - ¼ in. foam
  • Flat White - One shot of espresso, 10oz steamed milk, ¼ in. micro-foam

  • Cortado - One shot of espresso, one ounce of steamed milk. Equal parts

  • Latte Macchiato - Steamed milk first, ½ -¼ in. foam, then espresso shots.
    • Caramel Macchiato - Vanilla syrup first, steamed milk, foam, espresso shots poured last, and caramel sauce

  • Tea Au Lait/Cafe Au Lait/Cafe Con Leche - Tea sachet ¾ of the cup, and ¼ steamed milk/ Drip coffee/hot water + ¼ steamed milk
  • Latte Breve - Latte made with steamed half & half.
  • Mocha - Latte with chocolate sauce and whipped cream on top
  • Vienna Coffee - 2 shots of espresso and whipped cream in an 8oz. in cappuccino cup; sometimes, they add cocoa powder.
  • Vietnamese Coffee - sweetened condensed milk first and vital brew dripping through a Phin filter. Coffee is Robusto beans.
  • Affogato - one shot of espresso poured over ice cream

Most of these drinks are like a dessert. I love to see dessert shops with white linen tables and men in suits bringing customers Coffee and dessert. It makes the experience seem unique, and the guests feel good. Try this experience at least once since going to these fantastic places is always a treat.
