Cleaning acids like distilled white vinegar are highly acidic and best for cleaning mirrors, food surfaces, kitchen tools, and windows. Add water to distilled vinegar to clean furniture or floors since the acidity can be too harsh. Dilute it with Castille soap to sanitize the laundry. Remember, it is a replacement for effective cleaning products, and please do not combine it with other chemicals.
There are culinary grades of distilled vinegar to cook with like Heinz that is 5% acidity, but it's not my favorite since its really acidic and its hard to enjoy when it masks everything in the dish. Cleaning vinegar has more than 6% acidity which can be 20 times stronger than culinary grade.
Not saying other chemicals don't work, I just like to go a more natural approach since you do not want to spray around your food. If you spray vinegar around your food, it won't harm anything since it's natural and non-toxic. It will kill bacteria instantly, and if you choose to clean with chemicals, please do so after you have finished preparing your meal and away from all foods. I usually spray the chemical right onto the towel at close range instead of spraying the surface. So, place the rag in one hand with the spray head in the other hand, and spray right into the rag like you would spray your hand. Before I spray, I take a couple of steps away from the counter out of consideration of the others in the kitchen. I still do that since it's habit, even when I'm alone.
Chef's Note:
Citrus peels have many cleaning properties, like tossing them down the garbage disposal when the drain needs refreshing. Try cutting the peels, infusing them with hot water, salt, and adding dish soap. There is always a use for everything. Nothing goes to waste. Just make sure the peels are cut very small since you don't want to clog your drain. Only do it if you have a garbage disposal, if you don't just hot water, vinegar, dish soap, and salt mixed together should help deodorize the drain.
